ORVIS and Holland codes: do not swap the labels
Reviewed · 2026-09-17
Career interest inventories can organise activities using different models. PickAQuiz reports the eight ORVIS dimensions. It does not produce a Holland code, so you should not relabel its top scores as if they came from a different inventory.
Read the instrument name first
Our report lists leadership, organisation, helping, creativity, analysis, practical production, adventure, and language and learning. The plain-language display names correspond to the ORVIS source dimensions; they are not eight job recommendations.
A Holland-style result uses its own model, items and scoring instructions. If a course, career service or report explicitly asks for that type of code, use the assessment it specifies. Do not manufacture a code by selecting similar-sounding words from the PickAQuiz profile.
Why matching names is not a scoring method
Two inventories may both ask about making things or helping people. Similar activity descriptions do not establish that the scores can be converted directly. A valid mapping would need a defined method and evidence for its intended use. PickAQuiz has not established such a mapping.
The same caution applies when a result is expressed as letters instead of numbers. A shorter output is not necessarily a summary of the longer one. Keep the inventory name, version and scoring direction with any result you save or discuss.
Choose according to your next step
If you want a broad conversation about which work activities appeal to you, the ORVIS profile can provide eight groups to explore. If a local service connects a particular assessment to its occupation database, read that service's instructions and use its intended tool.
You can compare the kinds of activities that interested you across tools without claiming that the numerical scores are equivalent. Use concrete examples as the bridge: which tasks appealed, which you have tried, and which deserve more investigation. The ORVIS source key documents the instrument used here.
